Notes
Greg Voros and Tony Nagy from Gruhn Guitars show the class a really cool and rare old bass…the Gibson EB-1…introduced in 1953 and designed to be able to be held upright and played like a stand up bass with the use of it’s revolutionary telescopic end pin.

I did a little googlin' after we made this video and it turns out I was correct about this being Gibson’s direct answer to the Precision bass that was introduced two years earlier…which was the first fretted electric bass ever made (thus the name “precision” bass)
See friends, Uncle Larry doesn’t ALWAYS talk out his ass.
There were just over 500 of these made in its initial run from 53 to 58.

Here's what the google said about this cool instrument from the era when the greatest guitar company in the history of mankind was simply pissing greatness.

"The first production fretted electric bass built by Gibson was the Gibson EB-1, originally introduced in 1953 (initially called simply the "Electric Bass" before being renamed the EB-1 in 1958).

Key Details of the Gibson EB-1
• Release Year: 1953 (designed as Gibson's direct answer to Fender's 1951 Precision Bass).
• Body Style: Solid mahogany shaped like a miniature violin or upright double bass, complete with painted "fake" f-holes and pinstriping.
• Scale Length: Short-scale 30.5 inches.
• Neck & Fretboard: Set mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard featuring frets and dot inlays.
• Special Feature: Included a retractable endpin so musicians could play it upright like an acoustic double bass or horizontally like a standard guitar.
• Pickup: A single neck-position sidewinder/single-coil pickup designed by Walter Fuller and Seth Lover.
• Production: Only 105 units were made during its initial launch year in 1953."

Hello class, just a brief exploratory look at baritone guitars….keep in mind, EVERY guitar sounds cool when you tune it down low enough. Props to John Scott from Bluesman Vintage guitars in Nashville. You may want to contact him if you like lightweight guitars…the Strat he had with him yesterday was literally the lightest Strat i have ever felt in my entire life…5 pounds tops.
