Homeskoolin’ Volume 588, Tom Bukovac “All The Petes”

Chapters
00:00 - In depth with a pedal steel

Notes
You may have thought that ol’ Larry’s pedal steel phase had already came and went many years ago…and you would be right ….

but…I recently got the urge to jump back in the fire and bought myself an old 1961 Fender 400

I had no idea how to set up the changes and pedals, so I called my dear old friend and legendary steel guitar man Bruce Bouton.

He was kind enough to burn a Sunday afternoon crawlin’ around underneath this archaic piece of Fullerton history, to help me get it up and running like it’s supposed to.

Bruce is a real country music historian, and I’m glad I had the cameras rolling to capture some of these great stories.

In the world of guitar , the name Steve is the most popular…there are a million great guitar players named Steve….

but in the pedal steel world , Pete is the magic name …Sneaky Pete, Pete Drake, Pete Wade…

Thanks for being on the progrum Brucey!!

Homeskoolin’ Bonus “America’s Amp”

Chapters
00:00 - Impossibly clean Super
03:51 - Inside the amp
05:44 - Getting it ready
08:25 - Playing the amp

Notes
there was a time in American history when men rode Harley’s and played loud rude country music…and soulful rhythm and blues music…and rowdy rockin’ blues music for scantily clad nasty ho's that were built like brick shit houses in smoky sweaty bars across this great land….

and this was the amp that they used…

and when the gig was over they pushed the driver seat of their 2 door 1975 Pontiac Grand Prix forward and threw the thing in the back seat while it was still hot …and then they went back inside and bought an eight ball off the bartender so they could stay up all night banging some stripper in their mobile home…

and this was the amp that they used….

and they didn’t have to “go direct” or put “baffles” in front of the amp…and they didn’t have “expression pedals” for their “modeling device”…and if they DID have a pedal , it said “MXR” on it in big block letters …and it ran on a 9 volt …and it sounded fuckin great …

and this is the amp that they used…

Notes
Uncle Larry visits with the boys from Music City Bridge to discuss a very cool 1965 Stratocaster that found it’s way to it’s current owner through a very real and very organic network of people working together simply trying to help each other out.

After 30 plus years of living in Nashville, I can tell you that there is a very strong sense of community here, and we are all very thankful for that.

This guitar was originally consigned at Music City Vintage for a LOT of money due to the rarity of the ocean turquoise custom color.

I saw it there and immediately fell in love with it, and decided to feature it in one of my videos thinking that someone out there with way more money than I have might be interested in it.

My dear friend Matt Swanson saw that video and said that he would buy the guitar, but ONLY if the store was cool with having the guitar inspected by the guys at Vintage Verified to MAKE SURE that the finish is original.

You may remember me telling you about Vintage Verified, they use spectrometry and other amazing technology to analyze finishes, plastic and metal. They can tell if a guitar is straight or not, which is very important when you are spending THAT kind of dough.

Vintage Verified inspected the guitar, confirmed that it is indeed authentic. It had already been refretted once, but it was not a great fret job, so they suggested that the guitar be refretted again properly.

Matt agreed, so it was sent over to Glaser Instrument Repair so that Nick Drushel could give it to the bad ass fret job that the guitar deserves.

This whole thing is a great example of how the guitar community in this town works…there are so many great people and great resources here.

It’s truly amazing and I am THRILLED to be a small part of this great big beautiful karmic wheel .

Hope you enjoy the video friends

It stars :

Nick Drushel

Uncle Larry recounts the nasty fight he had with a particularly angry sounding 69 Telecaster yesterday

I was a bloody battle but think I won...

this is that time of year where you stop caring about things like trimming your beard, or giving a fuck about anything......the theme of this last week or so has been "BACK TO THE 1800'S!!"

and seriously friends...if you guys are getting a bunch of useful stuff out of these videos, PLEASE do not forget the fact that there is a tip jar within reach....also PLEASE do not forget that i had to bleed and give everything i had to find all these endless licks that you guys steal so freely and easily...

and you might think "why should i give to a guy who owns a '60 tele custom?"....but friends let's be honest... it probably won't be long til i get old and my hands give out...think about the big picture here

the PayPal tip jar is tombukovac‪@gmail.com‬
the Venmo tip jar is @Tom-Bukovac-1
