When the boys and i were driving around on our little Sunday afternoon drive yesterday, we played a million songs. When i put "country roads" by John Denver on they literally went into a trance…and so did i….

I started thinking, what IS IT about this simple song that has such power over people???

I figured it out…it's the note choice of the high harmony part that the girl (Taffy Nivert, also one of the song writers) is singing.

Very odd non-traditional harmony note choices, but SOOOOOO cool and haunting....takes me to the same emotional place that the girls singing on "Revolution Comes With An Act Of Love" by Church Of The Cosmic Skull takes me.

If you took that high harmony part away, the song woulda never made the top 100 billboard charts...that's a guarantee.

The power of the sixth note people....

Don’t even bother watching this if you are one of those guys that plays through a modeling amp instead of a real tube amp because it’s “good enough” and “no one can tell the difference anyway”

Taking you back to October 11 2022 here….the first time i ever heard the magical new Empress Para EQ pedal.

Picture me sitting in my kitchen late one night with a pretty stout buzz on, trying out a bunch of weird bass pedals with my buddy Renn (who has perfect hearing) tweaking the controls and Ford on the camera, when i said “hey dudes, we should check out this new empress pedal the guy sent me”

As you can see here we were all immediately taken by it’s expensive sound.

Through an iphone mic, you might need headphones to really hear the subtle differences this thing gives you, but trust me, in the room it is hardly subtle.

Thank you for all the kind words about the recent videos.

Joe’s long time guitar tech Mark Reis walks us through all the gear….Mark is SUCH a sweet sweet soul…God i love that boy….fellow Clevelander too.

What a blast seeing all these sweethearts again….haven’t played with Joe or hung with any of this crew since the infamous last Tom Petty tour of 2017.

Today was also the first time I have ever played with dearest Nathan East…what a sweet cat.

The guy who made this crazy guitar with the spinning pickups is called Kyle Stanton.

watching it made me simultaneously howl with laughter AND wince in painful agony.

just thinking about all of us grown ass men hopelessly stuck out there on the road…..every one of us completely beat to shit, miserable from all the brutal travel days and questionable hotel rooms....everyone missing their families so badly that they could literally burst out crying at any moment.

this is the kind of ridiculous shit people do when they are just pushed to the edge of insanity…in some God-forsaken place like Laughlin NV.

it's not at all uncommon during these situations to kill the hours by doing something like 15-20 takes of the dumbest comedy skit ever for a Youtube channel that shows free guitar lessons....poor Ebo was having' a hell of a time tossing that paper into the can haahaaa.
