A rare gear review from Larry….filled to the brim with brutal honesty, laughter and tears.

Special thank you to dearest James Hatem and the fine people at Roland for letting me try this cool new pedal…the RE-202.

Please note, this device has far more to offer than i glanced upon in this precursory perfunctory analysis, including a “warp” freak out mode that happens when you hold down the pedal, but i wasn’t emotionally ready to delve into all that in this video.

totally unrelated, these rug cleaning vids have at least temporarily taken the place of old NFL films in Larry's current youtube watch list

Homeskoolin’ “Song For The Dokta”

Chapters
00:00 - Sad day tunes

Notes
Sorry i haven’t been around much lately folks….been having a bit of a rough go.

I lost a very close friend last Tuesday night…i found him dead in his house …. suspected heart attack….and to top it all off? all this happened on his 55th birthday.

The Dokta…. known to most of the world as Richard L Reith….known to my two sweet boys as “Uncle Rick”.

I have known the kid since i was 16….

we lived together in shit hole rental houses back in our early nashville days when we were both broke desperately trying to get our careers going…..later on we co-owned 2nd Gear music store here in nashville together for 3 years.

Sarah and I finally told the boys tonite that he is gone….they took it hard.
Fuckin’ horrible.

He was an ace of a guy…very intelligent, good at fixing and building stuff…strong as an ox.

remember the vid a while back where i had a friend out in my garage helping me rebuild from the flood? That was him.

He was always there when you needed him. A front house sound man and road manager by trade….he worked with all kinds of artists….including Eric Johnson, which is a gig he particularly loved. he loved old Genesis and Zappa as much as i did. He rarely drank, but he smoked weed powerful enough to kill most normal men all goddamn day long. Dammit i’m gonna miss him. See ya down the road my man

Homeskoolin’ Extra Credit “Obsession Man”

Chapters
00:00 - Tennessee blues playing

Notes
Happy Sunday folks….just a brief exploration on my trusty old Doozy Multi-Bender….football bets are going reasonably well today so far…let’s hope the packers and vikings score 43 points or more tonite in the 11 degree weather they are playing in.

Appreciate those who watch/donate/say nice things….it means a lot to larry that you tune in….
I had a guy tell me that im looking haggered lately.
He gave me some “sage advice” saying i need sleep.

What’s that old saying, “walk a mile in another man’s shoes or shut the fuck up and stop trying to give life advice to a 53 year dude from cleveland who is forged in iron by deep inner pain and decades of back alley knife fights.”….i can’t quite remember but it’s something like that.

Homeskoolin’ Duesenberg Session Man Update

Chapters
00:00 - Duesenberg guitars being made

Notes
Fellas, i just got this email from my dear old friend Nathan Fawley from Duesenberg guitars. Apparently the first 10 Session Man guitars are in stores this week and here is where they will be landing.

I don’t mean to sound all sappy or overly sentimental, but i can’t even tell you how good it feels to have a signature instrument that i can TRULY stand behind and believe in….with all the honesty in the world. made by a great company that i have been working with closely for 15 years. This is all very exciting to me….cannot wait to hear feedback about these guitars from all of you players….i mean i ALREADY KNOW they are fuckin’ bad ass, but i’m looking forward to hearing YOU guys say that hahaaaa.

Anyway heres a cut and paste of the email Nathan sent.

Chapters
00:00 - Beautiful slow jam

06:36 - Echoplex
07:07 - Gretsch 6161 Amp

Notes
Well guys….I have always said, music is the great healer….especially tape echo imploding through some red hot 7591s…

I am layin’ low today friends. Drove myself to the ER at 2:30am last night after waking up in EXCRUCIATING kidney stone level pain in my right side…

My right side has been hurting right below the rib cage for about the past week, but last night it went into full on "attack mode" and i thought it was a kidney stone or the old appendix was about to burst.

Anyhoo, they put me on a morphine IV and that certainly helped. It turns out whatever is going on with me has been perplexing to the two different docs i have been to. Two different abdmonial CTI scans show absolutely nothing abnormal…blood work is fine, liver is fine….gallbladder looks normal, no kidney stones, no appendicitis or pancreatitis….so what IS IT?

No one knows….ulcer is the most reasonable conclusion at this point…which kinda fits "the lifestyle" in the often stressful world of the Uncle Larry. Do NOT worry friends, Larry is just gonna take it easy, play some guitar, watch some movies and chill the fuck out. Hope you all have a great holiday…and please do NOT blow your fingers off tomorrow lads ferchrissakes
