Homeskoolin’ Bonus “Take Two”

Chapters
00:00 - Heart - Little Queen cover in the studio

Notes
This is the second take of the Amazing Dawgs playing “Little Queen” at yesterdays rehearsal…not too shabby, but it will get way better.

Guest vocalist is the amazing Criss “Sabbath” Cain….he is the band photographer that tours with us. Coolest dude on earth, he is always kind enough to sit in for Ann at soundchecks and rehearsals, because any real musician absolutely HATES playing without a singer.

The back half of this clip features a 9 year old guest guitarist you may have heard me talk about before. First time he ever played with headphones on.
How hard did he stick the knife on that riff in the break???
After he got done he said, “those guys were playing the chorus chords wrong” hahaaaa

Look out world.

Homeskoolin’ Sunday Night Bonus Jam, “Lead Leopard”

Chapters
00:00 - Def Leppard - "Bringin' On the Heartbreak"

Notes
Ya’ know friends, they don’t write ‘em like they used to…takin you back to 1981 with another Mutt Lange creation that stands the test of time.

I have always heard that the AMAZING backing vocals on this track were all actually performed by Mutt himself (uncredited on the album liner notes of course)….

I’m not on the instagram…but i wanted to tell you guys that you should check out what Dean Deleo is doing on there recently. He has been putting up videos where he goes through the Trip The Witch record track by track and shows you some of the instruments he used and some of the parts he played on the record.

Basically a much higher quality much more tasteful and professional version of what I did a few weeks back when i had the C19….and i went through the tracks blabbering on about how hungover i was.

Thanks for watching the show kids

Notes
Well guys….I have always said, music is the great healer….especially tape echo imploding through some red hot 7591s…

I am layin’ low today friends. Drove myself to the ER at 2:30am last night after waking up in EXCRUCIATING kidney stone level pain in my right side…

My right side has been hurting right below the rib cage for about the past week, but last night it went into full on "attack mode" and i thought it was a kidney stone or the old appendix was about to burst.

Anyhoo, they put me on a morphine IV and that certainly helped. It turns out whatever is going on with me has been perplexing to the two different docs i have been to. Two different abdmonial CTI scans show absolutely nothing abnormal…blood work is fine, liver is fine….gallbladder looks normal, no kidney stones, no appendicitis or pancreatitis….so what IS IT?

No one knows….ulcer is the most reasonable conclusion at this point…which kinda fits "the lifestyle" in the often stressful world of the Uncle Larry. Do NOT worry friends, Larry is just gonna take it easy, play some guitar, watch some movies and chill the fuck out. Hope you all have a great holiday…and please do NOT blow your fingers off tomorrow lads ferchrissakes

Homeskoolin’ Quickie Update “The Great Procrastinator”

Chapters
00:00 - Heart - Magic Man in regular tuning lesson
01:00 - Middle bridge part
01:30 - Separate section
01:45 - Improv

Notes
Well kids, rehearsals for the upcoming gigs I’m doing with Ann Wilson start next monday, so amidst being solo super dad, I am having to learn 20 fairly complicated guitar heavy tunes that you definitely cannot fake (like i do on most gigs haha)…. Factor that in with a lot of sessions lately and that would explain the fact that I haven’t been around much.

At age 52, the goal on any live gig is to bring as little gear as possible. As absolutely genius as Roger Fisher’s composition and playing on this old Heart stuff is, in an effort to try to not bring an extra guitar just for one song, i figured out how to play this amazing bit of guitar wizardry that Roger came up with in regular tuning instead of the way he did it….by tuning the B up to D (ouch) and tuning the high E to G (ouch ouch). Its a little tricky, but it sounds pretty close….the F add 9 chord is a tough grab unless you fancy yourself a bit of a manly man (133033 from low to high)….Roger had the touch, watch some of those mid 70s live versions of Magic Man and dig the way he milks the heavy gain tone with beautiful bends and very thoughtful liquid vibrato (not to mention top shelf pick scrapes)

Once again, hats off to the pioneering creative genius and groundbreaking musicianship that was abundant in most of the music that came before “the great distraction” Hope you enjoy…heartfelt thanks to all those who have continued to hit the tip jar and support the channel.
